Living with Kindle 2

I have a Kindle, and when the Kindle 2 was announced I wondered whether I would get one. Well I got one, and I am going to give you my first impressions.

My first impression is that Kindle 2 is thinner, has better graphics, and better battery life. In fact I read from the Kindle 2 every night as part of my nightly ritual. I did not have to recharge it until Saturday, and that was because I wanted to spend some time with the Wall Street Journal Kindle Edition that comes on Saturday as well as Monday-Friday, so I recharged it to full status. I kept the wifi radio on as well in case I wanted to download some books. The Battery indicator was down to around 40% when I decided to recharge. I think most of the use was from downloading my entire library to the Kindle 2 which might have been more of a drain on the battery than normal.

I like the easy of purchasing and downloading content on the Kindle, and the same ease is with the Kindle 2. I don’t like having to manually bring my entire library to my new Kindle. There should be simple command to bring all content to the new Kindle rather than to have to manually tell the Kindle and Amazon to download everything. The new Kindle fits well into my hand and the keys are a little strange to get used to, but that is not a problem. The sleep on/off button is nice than the keyboard button mash that you had to use before.

The reason to have a kindle is access to my library to read. I don’t do much TV anymore. Reading an MMOs are my source of entertainment. Movies run a close third. Right now I have to bring my ipod touch, phone, and Kindle 2.

What would cause me to stop using the Kindle? It would be an Ipod Touch with a bigger screen, about the same size as the Kindle’s screen. I would still buy content from Amazon, but the Ipod would be my go to media device.
