How has the iPhone changed my life?

I’ve noticed that my iPhone has changed my life significantly. So I want to discuss this proposition with you.

The first proposition I wish to discuss is that the iPhone is not just a phone it is an information appliance. What am I getting at? I don’t use the phone capabilities as much as I use the other aspect of the device. In fact the phone aspect of the device is incidental to all the other things I use it for.

I think this is what has made the difference for me. The other phones I had that were smart phones were phones first the other aspects seemed glued in. I’ve never owned a blackberry, but I think it’s that same thing with that device. The iPhone actually contains my Bento databases, so I have the information when I want to know if I own the DVD that I am looking to buy.

My iPhone has the ability( with a free app) to tell me the nearest stores or restaurants from where I am. There is no more need to ask anyone, because I can get directions to those stores as well. This application is an example of an information appliance, and the iPhone is my choice for an information appliance.

I think that the iPhone has seriously raised the bar for what constitutes a smartphone. The ease of development for the device manifests itself in the sheer number of apps in the app store. These apps can help you transform your device to do what you want it to do. Want it to play games with you? You can download a serious number of interesting games.

I can seem the device being used in warehouses and sales floors. The camera can take a snapshot of a bar code, an app can translate the barcode, and then enter the appropriate information into a sales form. I can see credit cards coming with magnetic strip and a barcode for this kind of app. The Salesman can even see when it would be delivered and how many of an item is in stock.
