We do it everyday. We go to meetings and we supposedly take notes on what the meeting is about, but in reality we zone out. It’s the same way in College or High school. The Lecturer is droning on about some esoterica that you know will be on the exam, but you don’t lift a pencil. You are watching the girl sitting next to you breathe(really happened to me.) Or, you maybe napping. I’m here to help you know what notes to take.
The first thing you need ot do is read all material prior to the meeting or class. If a meeting is scheduled for the morrow the person leading the meeting should have emailed at a minimum the agenda for the meeting, and the handout he wants to you to have prior to the meeting, at least a day. That way you can read the material and agenda and know what is going to happen in that meeting. The same can be said for class. You need to read the material prior to class, even take notes on the reading
In class you will have a knowledge of what is in the book. The only things you need to write down are the things he presents that was not in the reading he assigned. Anything he repeats, or writes down on the board. The same can be said for the meeting. In a meeting he might even have a Powerpoint, or Keynote presentation. When the slides deviate or add material that is not in the handout and is important to you, take note.
