Let’s make a Bento Database

Bento is such an easy database that it’s kinda fun to make databases with the product. Again Bento is a personal Database for the Mac made by FileMaker. Bento is relatively inexpensive, and maddeningly simplistic at times. The Project we are going to make is a Video Collection Database.

In the photo below we see the form of the database, but we are not interested in that. We are interested in Just the table. The cool thing about Bento is that you can also use your iPhone to collect Bento information and sync it to your Mac. That is how I collect my video collection information

In Bento create a new collection. Add five fields. The Box Field is a media field. Dvd Title and Location are text fields. Format and Genre Fields are choice fields. In the Format choices don’t forget to include digital goods that you may have purchased from iTunes. Genre choices should be the genres that you collect the most like, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Action, Drama, etc.

If you have the iPhone bento product, sync with the computer. Now you can use the iPhone to collect your video collection information. I take a picture of the box so that i can see what it is I have in the collection. By having the iPhone app, I can be assured that I am not duplicating in my collection.

the information I have in my collection is not all the information that I would want in a library app, but it works for me. If you wish to add more fields, go ahead. I give you permission. Have fun with his database collecting your video collection
