I have a little advice for those of you who want to use mobile me to help you sync files between two machines. There was a lot of trouble when .mac became mobile me, and there are a few rules that might make your syncing more of a pleasure.
Here’s the advice:
- In the system preferences pane check the item that says to use the newest file when you turn on mobile me’s iDisk syncing feature.
- When you start stocking the iDisk directory with your files, start with a few at a time. Let iDisk sync those files and directories before adding any more.
- Use the iDisk only for those directories and files that need to be on both machines
- Don’t have both machines on at the same time. This prevents you from changing a file at both locations between syncs, which will confuse the syncing capability of mobile me. If you checkedm use newest file, this might be solved, but I still keep one machine off when I am working on another.
- In the preference on the server set the me.com email address to the smallest size if you are not using the email account. This will give your iDisk the maximum possible size.
I have found that when I follow these rules, I am a happy syncer with mobile me.
