I got turned on to Hulu over the weekend. As I was noodling around the website, it suddenly struck me that I was looking at the future of entertainment.
Why should I pay a cable company for television when all I really needed was a high speed connection. In fact, I went further, why is there need for TV at all? Sports? Most of the major sports have some kind of buy the season watch it on your computer. News? The news outlets have some kind of presence on the web.
In fact all I really need is that high speed internet connection. I bet you I could take a linux box add a few things like a blu-ray player, and I could have a decent media center where I could watch television when I wanted, and what I wanted.
If Wimax is all that it[s cracked up to be, then I wouldn't even need the darn wire. A Wimax enabled router in my house would provide all the pipeline I would need to stream my videos. The only reason to go to a theatre to see a film, would be better tech, or maybe something like a food court in the theatre.
If I was cable, or the dish I would be very scared for my business. If I was a traditional TV station then I would look to hook up with something like Hulu to present my local content.
This is my idea. What's yours?
