I love databases. I love working with them and I love developing them. When Bento came out for Leopard I was ho-hum. It seemed a simple, almost simplistic database. I was a bit jaded working with Mysql, SQL Server, and even Oracle. Then Bento 2 came out with some more fields and a little more.
When Bento 2 was released there was an outcry that there was no upgrade price! You should have read the forums. They absolutely burned. Well Filemaker learned from their lesson. Bento 3 comes with a $20 off for users of previous versions. It’s worth the upgrade.

You can now drag and drop media into the media fields. There is iPhoto integration, and you can add information to your photos. You just can’t change the iPhoto maintained information. There is mail integration. You can drag messages from mail onto a list. This creates links back to the message. You can even share you database with up to five computers over a network. Theres is even support for encrypted fields.
I think if you need some sort of database storage of simple information that can be stored on one table, Bento is for you. Now Bento does support simple relations between two tables, but it is not a full blown relational database.
For years I’ve said “where was the simple database for the Mac masses”, and now there are quite a few. I think this was because of the release of Core Data for the xcode development environment.
