Designing Tables with Bento 3

Table design is very easy with Bento 3 because there are a few choices for the fields. These choices are very powerful as we will see later in this post. I am going to go a little in depth with this post.

This is the field area of the main window:

Everything is done in this area of the bento main window when a new blank library is created. This is the field area and it is on the lower left corner of the Bento main windowScreenshot2009-10-18at6.19.36PM.png

To add fields you access the plus(+) button in this area of the bento window. When you do you get this dialog.

The field types are different in this version. Select the type, give it a name, and change any options the field might have. Here are the field types of Bento 3

These are some interesting fields for a database. Very useful fields in my opinion. The file list field is a list of links to files on your computer. You could use Bento to keep track of files for a project. Automatic Counter is for fields that need to be indexed. Email address is hooked into the Mail app. The URL is with your browser.
If you need a simple, personal database to keep track of information, then Bento 3 might be for you. If you’ve bought Bento before, you are eligible for an upgrade rate. Have fun with a database.
