When I next buy a desktop computer I am going to buy a Apple Mac mini. I have my reasons and they are many, but after the break I will expound on my reasons for this.
I have terrible luck when it comes to hard drives n my computers. I have a tendency to keep my computer on for long periods of time. In all cases the hard drive failed long before the computer’s useable life was up. This has led to being loath to buy computers where I cannot replace the hard drive without special tools and certification.

I’ve had experience with this with my iMac that I fondly called Big Mac. Big Mac was a wonderful machine while it’s hard drive worked, and that’s the key. The hard drive failed after the Apple warranty expired. I found myself with a lump of a machine. I hate to take anything in for repair, because I have been my own repair man, and I like my own work, except for the iMac. Because to change out your hard drive you have to do major surgery to the computer.
With the Mac Mini it’s still fiddly work, but at least it can be done on the top of a desk with a minimum of specialized tools like torx drivers. From what I’ve seen you need a putty knife and a phillips head screw driver. So, I can add memory, and a new hard drive when I feel like it.
The next reason for getting a mac mini is what I use my desktop for. I don’t do heavy video editing any more. The major think I do is outline and color my comic creations in acorn, and some other lightweight image editing tools. I do record voice, and screen casting, but niether of those is reall all that intense, so a Mac Mini is right in line with what I need in a computer.
The games that I play are not really that intense, so I should be okay when it comes to gaming for the Mac Mini. Another reason for using the mini is that I do have a spare keyboard, mouse, and Display, so the cost will be just for the mini itself.
