EagleFiler is a very good library management system, but it’s search capabilities put it in the realm of database products. Now I understand that this is a not a finished database product. There is no field validation nor relationships to be drawn. Rather this is a way to store and retrieve information in a semi-rigid matter. In many ways this is the ideal database system for those of us who think differently.
Let me say this right from the start. I use both DevonThink and EagleFiler together. I use DevonThink to gather all my paper into and electronic format. EagleFiler is where I store all my information, research and pdfs that have been OCRed so that I can search the content in them.
EagleFiler has a directory where you can put rtf files and use them as stationery for entries into an EagleFiler. These rtf files are then put into the correct directories and given the right tags for later retrieval. As an Example I made a very simple rtf file for dealing with passwords I have to remember. I use that file in conjunction with an encrypted library for security.

You can use any editor in making the rtf file. Once you have the file made you need to save it to the stationery folder. This is located in user’s home directory/Library/application support/EagleFiler/stationery. Put your rtf files here and they will show up in the new records menu. Simple use those stationery files from that menu and you will make new documents based on those files. Fill out the information and then save it to the correct folder, tag it, and then forget it. When you want it back just search for some of the key words or use the tags to retrieve the files.
To make a database make a rtf form that you want to fill out. Store it in the stationery folder. Use the stationery to make the file. Use EagleFilers search or filters to find the file with the information.
