The first of the year is coming up and I thought I would expound on how to become a TechWise TechWarrior in case you might be wondering. In the coming year I anticipate more software and tech solutions to common problems to be solved. So, After the break, what it means to be a TechWise TechWarrior and how to accomplish it
My definition of a TechWise TechWarrior is one who uses technology to make their life easier. One is TechWise when one realizes when a solution is not ready yet for a tech solution. These are the common traits of a TechWise TechWarrior:
- TechWise TechWarriors are organized
- TechWise TechWarriors are mobile
- TechWise TechWarriors are well prepared
TechWise TechWarriors are Organized
Organizations means different things to different people, but I mean that you know where things are, and what is coming up in the day. This means that you need some sort of Calendaring system. If you are using a Macintosh then you have iCal which is a good enough system. You also need some sort of to do manager, whether that is the iCal, or Things, or some other sort of to do manager is up to you. You need to use both of these systems.
You need somewhere for paper to live. This might be a filing cabinet, or a system that scans paper and files it on your computer, or it might be both. You need a duplex feeding scanner, or a scanner that scans both sides of the paper like a Fujitsu ScanSnap .
Then you need the will to use it. Keep up with the scanning of documents. Don’t let it pile up until there is too much. Set up your document repository Using either EagleFiler or DevonThink
TechWise TechWarriors are mobile
That means their solutions must be mobile. Buy a laptop rather than a desktop machine. If you need a desktop, then be prepared to sync your files between computers. I recommend a large portable hard drive, just keep the files on that drive and shuttle the drive between machines.
We need to keep our Tech safe while we are mobile,so we need some kind of bag. I currently use a bag within a bag system. I have a bigger bag which carries books, and the smaller laptop bag is used to stow the laptop and then get it out. The smaller bag goes with me it I don’t need the larger bag.
TechWise TechWarriors are well prepared
I mean you know how to handle most situations. When boarding a plane find the nearest two exits by sight. Have a plan of action on how you will get to those exits. In a hotel walk the path to two emergency exits from your room. Walking the routes puts the directions in my memory. Always use all locking mechanisms on doors in hotel rooms.
The next thing is to aways carry a travel first aid kit. I showed you here how to make my travel first aid kit. Trust me. The first time you are able to doctor your own wounds with your kit, you will thank me. Also the person who you doctor with your kit will also thank you.
If you makes these precepts a part of your life, then you can call yourself a TechWise TechWarrior.
