I got a rather unusual gift, but if you knew me you would realize that it was indeed me. I fancy myself something of a cartoonist. In fact I intend to launch a web comic using my cartoonist style and the comedy I have been producing with Wisdom of Huenal. More on that when I get that site launched. In order to do this I needed a workflow that could get the image digitized and then organized into a web comic. After the break more on how a christmas present will help me realize my dream of a web comic.
The Christmas gift I got was a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch Fun Small Tablet. Now I was there when the person who got this gift for me got it. They wanted to make sure that they got what I wanted. So, just how is this going to help me to make a web comic? I am going to use a techniques of drawing in pencil on a sheet of paper. I will scan in the pencil drawings and I will trace over it with the tablet in my software.
The software I will be using is Flying Meat’s Acorn. This software is priced low enough, and I use it in other aspects of my professional life. The reason I am using it is that it reads the pressure I am applying to the stylus, and alters it’s drawing characteristics. This might even enable me to draw driectly onto the computer without the paper side trip. Right now I need the paper side trip in order to ensure that I am getting the drawing correct.
Each panel of the comic will be drawn separately. I will be using PlasQ’s Comic Life product to assemble the comic and make the speech bubbles, etc. Then a simple export will bring the comic out and into a form that all can enjoy.

I did this comic before using a model viewer, and some screenshots. This limited my comedy as I could not show the kind of temper tantrums the main character had. By using my cartooning skill coupled with my computer will bring the comic to life as never before. Watch for it later in 2010
