It’s getting easier to remember the year now when I write, and that tells me that I am well into the new year. This week has been one of placid contentment. When I haven’t taught a particular class in a while, I go through the class at some point prior to the class. This serves to jog my memory about the class. Next week I am teaching ASP.NET, a particularly fun technology. What this means is that I had to dig out the classroom TechWarrior case, and not my shoulder briefcase. What I discovered is after the break.
What I discovered is that my Travel First Aid Kit was depleted somewhat of bandaids. This got me to thinking that some criticism about the last post I wrote about the kit was lacking in specifics. It seems that people what to know how many of things I carry in that kit. So, I wrote this post to tell people exactly how many of things I put in my First aid Kit. I even provided a picture of the kit. I also refilled my kit in preparation for next week’s class.
I spent some Christmas money purchasing a Canon Powershot A1100 IS. I had a limited budget and this seemed a really good point and shoot camera. A benefit was that I could finally use my Eye Fi Video Explorer 4 GB SDHC card. I wrote this post about my adventures with the card. It’s now part of my TechWarrior bag of tricks.
A few overheard comments about the notebook in my pocket made me reevaluate the index card as a note taking system. I had a Jotter, so I wrote this post about my return to index card note taking.
I never thought about my DNS service that my ISP provides until I heard about Google’s new Public DNS. I made the switch and wrote about it here. I can say that my surfing has been a little snappier with all of my browsers that I use. I can say that I did not notice any speed up with Chrome, but that’s because Chrome uses prefetching to speed up surfing.
Until a few months ago I had a 24″ iMac, and I loved it. For some reason I am hard on hard drives. I loose a hard drive about every 18 months on average. Well, true to form the iMac’s hard drive crashed hard about June of this year, which is 18 months since the purchase of the iMac. I did not purchase the apple care, so i attempted the repair myself. I don’t recommend that, so I have come up with a plan to allow the use of your iMac when your internal hard drive crashes. I wrote about that plan here.
I want to comment on something that I am finding about Twitter. I am using the method of allowing people to find me on Twitter, which is why I have about 300+ followers, and been on twitter for about 5 months now. I have found that the people who want to know what’s on the site are starting to find and follow me. I thank all of you who have done that. I am finding that this is a real group of people who want to read what I write. Instant follower services might get you a couple grand of followers quickly, but I find I like my “home grown” group of followers better.
For the last thing in this post I want to thank all of you who purchased the eBook course called “Vi for the rest of us.” the price I had it at ($4.99) was never intended to be the final price. Today I intend to change the price to what I think is a fair price all around, $9.99. I do provide a free sip of the course. Click on the link in upper left corner of the page.
