A second look at EagleFiler

Sometimes you don’t know what you have until you go back, and either read the manual, or look at the menus in more detail. I first put EagleFiler into a niche that said it was to be used as a finder on steroids. Then I started to think outside of the box, which will happen after the break.

At first glance EagleFiler looks a little bit like a finder, or at least the Mail app. With this simple interface people can be deceived into thinking this is a simple program. there’s power under that easy to use interface.

A database in my definition is anything that stores, organizes, and retrieves information. EagleFiler does that. It stores the information as either rtf, plain text, or anything that it can read through. You can retrieve the information(file) by doing a live search. That’s doing a query.

Organization can be accomplished by putting files into directories or using tags and making smart folders that can show you the files that meets the smart folder’s criteria. You could do both.

What is all this leading to? I hope during the next couple of weeks to show you some ideas I’ve come up with. I also want to show you how to do some interesting things with EagleFiler.

You can probably tell that EagleFiler is a powerful and very easy tool to use, but with a little study, a little forms development, and a little bit of programming you can get so much more. I really think that $40 is not too much to spend for this little tool that can do so much.
