This week in the life of this TechWarrior – 1/23/2010

This week the Site celebrated it’s one year anniversary. I also made some decisions concerning how I post to the web, and when I carry the TechWarrior bag or roll around. I also brought back some old things on the site. These and more after the break.

I began this week with an explanation as to my fascination with EagleFiler. People seem to be agreeing with me that this little program is astonishing. This is the sort of tool that I like. One that allows me to do what I want and then gets out of the way.

Once that explanation was offered, I then tried to show you how to use the search box in EagleFiler. That post is here. In that post I offered 5 ways to use the search box. That seemed to get everyone’s attention.

I like productivity software like MS Office. The thing I don’t like is the price charged by MS for the product. I ‘ve been looking for an alternative for some time now. When I worked in the Windows world I found OpenOffice, and it was pretty good, but the move to the Macintosh Environment ended my Use of OpenOffice. I found NeoOffice, but it was usually a couple versions behind OpenOffice. (NeoOffice still exists and has caught up for the most part. NeoOffice is attempting to make OpenOffice really Mac-Native.) I went ahead and posted 5 things to know about OpenOffice.

To better serve the TechWarrior Community I went ahead an build an Amazon Astore. I wrote about this on a short announcement post. When I find things that might interest you in Amazon I will post them to the Store. Check it out.

I thought it would be nice to have a project to do this week. I thought that creating a loan payment calculator in a Spreadsheet would be nice. So I wrote how to do that here. It’s a rather simple spreadsheet, but it demonstrates the use of built-in functions of you spreadsheet.

I had enough of my friends dragging me down about putting ads on my site. So I wrote a response to that in this post here. Most of my friends don’t realize just how much a good website costs to build and maintain. While I use this site as a place to peddle my training services, I do want the site to take up more of the financial support burden. That was the reason for that post this week.

I couldn’t leave the week without mentioning the site’s one year anniversary. My little surprise is here for your perusal.

Finally I bought a magic mouse and have been using it ever since for my regular and mobile mouse. It fits well in my hand, and the gesture interface is very intuitive and does not get in the way. I wrote more about it here.

That just about wraps up the past week for me. You may have noticed that I have 8 posts this week instead of the normal 6. I’m finding out that there a lot more topics to talk about, and I may try posting twice a day. I will keep to my one post a day schedule Monday through Friday, but there may be additional posts during the day for the coming week. We’ll see how that woks out.

Do good work. Be well prepared.
