School’s Laptop Spying Software Exploitable from Anywhere | Freedom to Tinker:
“Unfortunately, the security problems are worse than has been reported so far, and are far from theoretical. In fact, any machine with a public IP address running Absolute Manage can be taken over by attackers anywhere on the Internet. Such an attacker can command the machine to run arbitrary code, steal data, or take photographs using the computer’s camera.”

This is bad. Not for the users, but for the Schools. If I remember right the Laptops are on loan from the school district. What is the school district to do? In Texas you can’t require students to bring laptops to school because not everyone can afford one. Because of our laws School districts cannot require parents to spend money. An Example is taking the children to the zoo. You cannot grade on the outing unless every child is there. That means that someone has to pay the money, or not go at all. This school district wanted the children to use a laptop, so they provided them with one. To prevent the child, or parent, from installing software, they put this software on the laptops. Now it’s known to have an exploit. Sad.
