Working with Fluid

Websites are becoming more and more like standalone apps.  Sometimes one would think that all it would take to make it standalone is to take the code and compile it for your computer.  Well someone has thought of that already.  It’s called Fluid, and this is how to work with it.

Using Fluid you can create a site specific browser.  All you need is the URL you want the SSB to home in on.  Copy the URL to the SSB creation dialog and whammo you got a standalone program that when activated goes to that web site.

Download and install the fluid app.  Then go to a website that you would like to make a SSB.  Copy the URL Start Fluid.  Enter the URL you copied into the URL textbox.  Give the SSB a name.  I use the web favicon to be the application’s icon.  Click on create and your app is created where you told it to create.

Fluid is currently a free download.  I suggest you get it, and make your favorite web apps a SSB.
