Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse – Together

I’ve been using the Wireless Keyboard with my laptop for some time now.  It has the same feel as the MacBook keyboards and the new keyboards.  The reason I use it is because the keyboard on my laptop has a problem with the “N” key.  My laptop has the old mushy keyboard, so I bought the wireless keyboard to se with the laptop, so I don’t have to use the laptop’s actual keyboard.

The Wireless Mouse is a different matter.  I do not like to use the trackpad.  Wireless mice come in two flavors, bluetooth and just plain old wireless.  Just plain old required that I give up a USB slot for the dongle, so that left me on a search for bluetooth wireless Mice.

I found just a few bluetooth wireless mice.  One is undersized for portability, but I have large hands and that made that mouse hard to use for long periods of time.  Then Targus came out with it’s bluetooth products for the Mac.  I bought the mouse and it worked well for me.  With no wire it was very portable and a full sized mouse.  I even bought the bluetooth presenter.

When Apple announced the Magic Mouse I was elated.  With the top having no buttons just the touch area I thought that this might be the mouse for me.  This was before the fix where the keyboard and mouse did not get along and burned through batteries.  This was unusual because My Targus mouse and the Apple wireless keyboard got along quite well.  Even now the mouse burns through batteries more often than the Targus, and that is a concern for me.  I think it might be the way I hold the mouse.  I have the habit of resting my hand on the mouse when I am not typing.  I’m wondering if I am causing the mouse to send a signal when I do that?

so my solution to that has been to tun off the keyboard and the mouse when I shut down the computer.  I turn them back on just before power on.  I seem to get more battery life out of both products when I do this.  So, that is my experience with the Apple Wireless Keyboard and the Magic Mouse together.
