Using MarsEdit 3 part 1

MarsEdit is the quintessential Blog writing software for the Mac.  Recently it went to version 3.  I wanted to put it through it’s paces before coming back with a Using Post.  After the break Using MarsEdit 3

MarsEdit is all about posting blog posts.  While MacJournal tries to keep everything in a Journal metaphor, MarsEdit is all about blog posting.  There is no true way to retain the blog posts once they are posted, and that’s alright with me.

I like software that is tightly focused around doing one job well, and that’s what MarsEdit is.  The interface to MarsEdit is easy to understand.  To write your post you have to have established a connection to your blog.  Most blogs now support of several different protocols for external editors.  MarsEdit knows about these protocols and will try to connect when you provide a name and the URL to your blogs home page.

Once you have a connection to your blog it will populate the list of posts for the ten most recent posts.  Now all you have to do is tell it you want to make a post.  On the Toolbar is the new post icon.  Click on that and you get the editor.  You can sue MarsEdit’s own editor which supports both HTML and rich text modes.  I use the HTML editor when I have code I need to embed into my post for embedded video.  Otherwise Rich Text provides me with a WYSIWYG preview of my post.

Since you will be using the Editor most often I will give a full treatment tomorrow.
