I keep telling people that they have to get the manuals before they can operate their tech, I am guilty of jumping right in with both feet. Then I develop the burning question syndrome. That’s why I try to get the core documentation of any new software. After the break I will tell you about the iWork core documentation and where to find it.
iWork is like any other software product. It has manuals to make working with the software easier. Most people ignore the manuals and go straight to the product and try to start using it. Quite often they have to get an answe and so they go to the forums, and ask the silly question that gets them flamed because the answer is in the book. They get L2r, learn to read. They community gets bashed for not being friendly. They are, but for real problems.
Since I am a computer trainer I have more patience that the normal TechnoWarrior, and these type of questions don’t bother me. Other people; however, are a different matter. All of these manuals are for download only. They are PDFs. which should not be a problem. You can get them here. I recommend getting them all.
Reading these PDFs are no problem with the Mac, but there is one more thing I would like to recommend. If you are looking for a PDF reader that allows you to take notes on the pages, then may I suggest Skim. Skim is a PDF reader and Note taking program. I write marginalia in most of my physical books. Skim allows me to write them in PDFs as well.
There is one of these Manuals I want to describe to you because it may seem strange at first. That is the Formula and Functions user guide. YOu would think that this would be a section in the Numbers User guide, but it’s not. That’s because the formulas can be used in any App. You can build a table in Keynote, or Pages and have access to the full set of functions that would normally reside in Numbers.
Now get those manuals and READ them. Then drop me a line if you have a problem. I’ll try to help you out.
