MarsEdit 3 has two editors, the Rich Text editor and the HTML editor.  This makes MarEdit 3 a wonderful too for writing your blog or creating an entry with embed code.  An Explanation on these Editors after the break.

rich text editor

What’s interesting with the rich text Editor is that it is pretty much WYSIWYG.  You use the standard rich text formatting and when MarsEdit # osts your entry to the blog it provides the best html it can.  Want something bold?  Select it and select bold from the format Drop drown.

You can drop an image on the editor and it will upload it to your blog’s site.  In Rich Text the image will appear like a word processing document.  When you choose Post>>Edit html text  you are now moving into the realm of html.

HTML Editor

The main difference with the HTML Editor is that it is a plain text editor that knows about HTML  It will syntax color which is similar to the old-fashioned programmer’s editor of the past.  In this editor you can write the HTML code that you need to get onto your site.  I use this editor for entering the embed code for the videos I find on the web.  Then I switch to the Rich Text which causes the embed code to work.

If you don’t know HTML and don’t care to know, then using the Rich Text Editor is the best way to get good looking text into your blog.  If you need to use embed code, then you have to use the HTML editor and paste that code into your post.  Either way MarsEdit 3 is an indispensible tool for the blogger.
