Using Bento 3 to create an expense list

One of the more interesting things I have to do when I travel is keep track of my receipts.  I have a serious problem with all of the fiddly pieces of paper.  Expense tracking programs on the iPhone have a way of using the camera to take images of the receipts.  My solution to this problem after the break.

Bento is a simple to use database program.  Essentially it is a fancy list manager.  Yet there is power in Bento.  One of the more interesting things about Bento is that it comes with a set of templates.  Most people don’t extend the capabilities of the templates.  It is as if the people feel the template is sacrosanct.  With a little Judicious changes you can make any template fit your needs.

The Expense Template did not come with a way image receipts.  I changed that by adding a Media field and giving it the name of Receipt.  I also removed a few other fields that did nothing for me.  These were the related records lists.  Now that I had the library the way that I wanted I synced with my iPhone Bento.  Now when I have a receipt that I need to remember for tax purposes I can enter most of the information on my iPhone.

Once again Bento 3 on my Mac and iPhone have made it possible to have an application that I do not have to pay for again.
